Chess and Spirituality
Chess is a game for deep thinkers and calculated strategists. In order to become skilled in the game of chess your mind must be oriented towards logic and intuition, structure and creativity, forward thinking and spontaneity.
This class will offer a space for participants to delve deeply into chess strategies but also how the game of chess provides life lessons and spiritual insights.
This is a 5 week course, exploring the game of chess from multiple lenses. Each class we will cover 3 strategies, 3 tactics, and 2 life lessons. By digesting key aspects of chess gradually and systematically players will grow quickly in their understanding and skills. Participants in class will be expected to use a chess app so they can play against the computer, each other and random players throughout the world.
Jay English was taught chess by his father at 9 years old and has played consistently since then. He typically plays multiple chess games a day.
This class will explore:
Strategy and counter strategy
Skills and tactics
Building your intuition
Learn planning ahead (3,4,5 moves ahead)
Spontaneousness
Cause and effect
The importance of sacrifice
Never giving up
How discipline brings about expertise
How to use to time as a strategy
How to use jedi mind tricks
This course can benefit beginner, intermediate and advanced players
